Video Interlude: Throwback To A Philadelphia Spotlight On The Daily Show In Honor Of Jon Stewart’s Sendoff

As Comedy Central — heck, America! — celebrates Jon Stewart’s more than 16-year run as host of The Daily Show, everyone from Arby’s to The New York Times has bid Mr. Stewart a fond #jonvoyage.

The prolonged sendoff has included the streaming of more than 2,000 archive episodes of the nightly series online and via the Comedy Central app, starting with Stewart’s very first show in 1999.

So, with all of the looking back, we were reminded of an episode in 2004 when the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Agency (now known as Visit Philadelphia, and Uwishunu’s parent company) launched its unprecedented campaign to welcome LGBT visitors to Philadelphia.

In this throwback “Penn Pals” segment, Visit Philadelphia’s President and CEO Meryl Levitz notes the importance and impact of LGBT leisure travelers to Philadelphia and the clip goes on to show the national commercial for the “Get Your History Straight and Your Nightlife Gay” campaign.

Now one of the country’s leading gay-friendly destinations, the City of Brotherly Love continues to welcome people from around the world, and makes a great destination for gay and lesbian travelers.

The final episode of The Daily Show with Stewart as its host airs tonight, August 6.
