This week, the the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s Contemporary Craft Show and Craft NOW Philadelphia hit the city, bringing with them works from some of the nation’s most visionary and talented makers.

If these events get you in the mood to create some works of art of your own, we’ve got you covered — from pillow making to glass blowing.

Get up, get out and take part in these DIY crafting activities and gatherings throughout town this week.

Modern Patchwork Pillow with Ellie Lum at the Art Dept.

This geometric patchwork throw pillow workshop will guide participants through the process of making beautiful pillows for the home. Sewing teacher Ellie Lum will lead the class, and students will leaved with their finished pillows. A basic knowledge of sewing – aka how to work a sewing machine – is required.

When: Thursday, November 12, 6:30-9:30 p.m.
Where: 1638 E. Berks Street
Cost: $45 per person

Crafts with a Kick at Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens

It’s hard to imagine a more inspiring setting in which to create than Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens, Isaiah Zagar’s mosaic labyrinth on South Street. During this adult craft night, guests will design beautiful, easy-to-make tiles that they can use as coasters or put on display. Attendees can attend one of two sessions and must be 21+ to attend. Complimentary wine will be on hand to help get the creative juices flowing.

When: Friday, November 13, 6-7:30 p.m. and 8-9:30 p.m.
Where: 1020 South Street
Cost: $20 for members, $30 for non-members

CraftNOWCreate at the Kimmel Center

Guests of all ages are invited to CraftNOWCreate, a hands-on exploration of craft at the Kimmel Center. The family-friendly event will feature activities and demonstrations from local art institutions like The Center for Art in Wood, the Clay Studio, the Philadelphia Art Alliance, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Tyler School of Art, and University of the Arts. Activities will include pottery-throwing battles, wooden whistle carving, looming, 3D ceramic printing and slip casting, knitting and glass blowing.

When: Saturday, November 14, 11 a.m.- 4 p.m.

Book Paper Scissors at the Free Library

It’s all about paper-related art on Saturday at the Parkway Central Library. Book Paper Scissors is an artists’ book fair, featuring books, prints, handmade paper, zines, origami, blank books, paper sculpture and jewelry. Plus, kids and adults can participate in paper-making activities. All of the fun is free and open to the public.

When: Saturday, November 14, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Journal Making and Leaf Imprinting at the Schuylkill Center

Art is all around us, especially this time of year, when gold, red, brown and orange leaves cascade down from the trees. During this workshop, which costs $10 per person, participants will collect these natural pieces of art and leave with their own booklets of personal found artifacts.

When: Saturday, November 14, noon-2:30 p.m.
