RAW Artists, an international indie arts organization, hosts local artist showcases in more than 70 cities worldwide — including Philadelphia.
Philadelphia is known for its bursting underground arts scene and RAW takes advantage with recurring showcases featuring independent artists in a variety of fields including visual and performance art, fashion design, hair styling and makeup artistry.
Next up, on Wednesday, April 20, Philadelphia’s own will be showcased at Philadelphia Presents Signature at the Trocadero Theatre.
This installment will feature more than 30 artists including visual artist Zamarys Baez and illustrator Jeffrey Macpherson. Some performing artists include Mariana, a professional belly dancer and The Jordyn Show, a multifaceted one-woman show and vocal performance. Musical acts will encompass a range of genres from R&B to folk.
On the fashion and beauty side of things, certified makeup artists M.SArtistry and Makeup by Johana will display their skills with models and live makeovers. At 10:15 p.m., the Trocadero becomes a runway with a show of relaunched urban-inspired clutches by Liliglow Boutique and looks from other RAW Artists, too.
Admission to this all-encompassing art show is $20 for presale tickets and $25 at the door. Tickets are available online.
On the RAW Artists website, you can select an artist to support with you ticket purchase. Artists commit to a certain number of ticket sales for each event they’re involved in. These sales help supplement or completely cover any costs involved in showcasing their work, so your contribution only helps promote the organizations’ mission of supporting independent artists.
Later this season, RAW Artists: Philadelphia returns with events on July 20 and on October 19, giving Philly a regularly scheduled chance to support independent artists.
