From June 29 through July 4, Wawa Welcome America returns to the Benjamin Franklin Parkway and beyond for the festival’s 25th anniversary year. The events on deck for the week celebrate Independence Day with tons of free festivities — a huge parade, an enormous free concert, amazing fireworks and more activities across the city.
Every year, the giant free concert on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway features a different set of talented musicians, and this year, R&B songstress Mary J. Blige will headline the huge concert. That’s right, Mary J. Blige, who’s been named one of the greatest women in music by the likes of Rolling Stone and Billboard, will perform hits like No More Drama, Family Affair and Be Without You at a completely free concert.
And the performers don’t stop with Mary J. Blige, either. The Parkway stage will also welcome the Philly POPS Big Band, jazz singer Tony DeSare and Broadway star Mandy Gonzalez who has performed in Hamilton, In The Heights and Wicked.
Plus, Boyz II Men will make an appearance as they are honored for their impressive career.
After the festivities on stage, a colorful fireworks show will fill the sky above the Philadelphia Museum of Art at an earlier time — 9:30 p.m.
Can’t make it to the Parkway? No worries — the entire celebration will be broadcasted live throughout the Philadelphia area on NBC10 and broadcasted in Spanish on Telemundo62.
Stay tuned for more on the 25th anniversary of the Wawa Welcome America festival.
