The 40th Street Summer Series Returns To University City With Free Concerts

It’s free, it’s fun, it’s great for families! The 40th Street Summer Series returns to University City this summer with a lineup of popular performers you won’t want to miss.


  • The 40th Street Summer Series runs on select Saturdays: May 20, June 17, August 19 and September 16.
  • All events are free and open to the public.
  • The series features live music, dance performances, food samples and more.

One Saturday a month, the lawn behind the Walnut Street Library at 40th Street will host performances by some of the Philly area’s most energetic musicians and entertainers.

The 40th Street Summer Series brings live music and other free outdoor fun to University City.

Attendees are welcome to bring blankets, coolers, food and other supplies to make for an awesome evening. Plus, sponsors like Ben & Jerry’s, Saxbys and Honeygrow will be on hand giving out free samples.

The music series kicks off on Saturday, May 20 with the fascinating sounds of The Sun Ra Arkestra.

On June 17, choreographer Brian Sanders will showcase his unique blend of dance and physical theater. Double headliners Dan Blacksberg’s Hot Klezmers and the West Philadelphia Orchestra will appear on July 22. On August 19, the eight-piece band Worldtown Soundsystem will perform eclectic live house music.
