Philly Music Fest Spotlights Local Bands, Food & Drink At World Cafe Live This Weekend

Two nights, two stages and a stellar lineup of performers and food and drink vendors...

Love the local? Get ready for a homegrown Philly festival this weekend at World Cafe Live.

The Philly Music Fest brings more than 25 local bands as well as Philly food vendors and beer from nearly a dozen area breweries to University City this Friday and Saturday, September 22 to 23.

  • The Philly Music Fest takes place September 22 to 23 at World Cafe Live in University City.
  • More than 25 local bands will play across two stages.
  • Food and drink from regional restaurants, food trucks, breweries and distilleries will be available.
  • Single-day and two-day tickets can be purchased online.

The inaugural festival is designed to encourage residents to support and celebrate the city’s continuously growing music scene.

The Music

The Philly Music Fest offers a sweeping showcase of Philly talent on two stages at World Cafe Live, home to the studios of radio station WXPN. A total of 26 bands (11 on Friday, 15 on Saturday) will play across the two days of the festival, kicking off with garage rock trio Slomo Sapiens on Friday and concluding with nationally recognized Strand of Oaks on Saturday.

In between, artists like West Philadelphia OrchestraCheerleader, Cayetana and Steve Gunn will perform sets ranging anywhere from 30 to 80 minutes in length.

Every single artist on the bill hails from the area, creating a truly Philly-centric experience meant to celebrate the city’s exploding music scene and highlight the depth of the area’s up-and-coming artists.

Food and Drink

Complementing the fest’s hyperlocal theme, Philadelphia chefs will serve up a variety of food options.

Food trucks will line the area outside of World Cafe Live on 31st Street during both festival days and Federal Donuts is set to create a wall full of (complimentary!) donuts inside the venue.

On drink menu, nearly a dozen area breweries will take over the 20 taps at World Cafe’s three stationary bars, and satellite bars will be set up around the venue with additional tap lines as well as cans and bottles for sale.

Breweries onboard include St. Benjamin, Flying Fish, Free Will, Yards and Weyerbacher brewing companies. Cocktails created using spirits from area distilleries will also be available.

Ticketing, Getting There & Staying Over

Both single-day and two-day tickets are available for purchase online. With VIP tickets already sold out, we recommended purchasing tickets in advance.

Friday general admission costs $30 per person and Saturday runs $40. Two-day tickets are available for $65. The proceeds of the Philly Music Fest will be donated to local charities.

World Cafe Live is located just a few blocks south of 30th Street Station, which handles train service from Amtrak, NJ Transit and SEPTA. Those looking to drive can find metered parking within walking distance of the venue on Walnut, Lower Walnut, Chestnut, and 31st streets. Also nearby, attendees can find a number of public parking lots that range from $8-$12 for a flat rate.

Make a vacation (or staycation!) out of the two-day fest by staying overnight with the Visit Philly Overnight Hotel Package, which this fall includes free hotel parking, free museum admission to the National Constitution Center and the Betsy Ross House, free PHLASH passes and more
