The Rocky Bet Between the Mayors of Philadelphia and Brockton, MA

Photo by Albert Lee, Office of the City Representative

Philly Mayor James Kenney and Mayor Bill Carpenter of Brockton, MA, have locked in on a bet that involves the Rocky statues situated in their respective jurisdictions. If the Patriots win, Philadelphia’s iconic Rocky statue must don a Patriots jersey, and if the Eagles win, the Rocky statue in Brockton — where boxer Rocky Marciano was born — will sport an Eagles jersey. A keg of beer from Yards Brewing Com. and some Rocky Marciano wine round out the wager.

Over 3,000 shirts were sold in 24 hours, and a brand-new design debuts this week for sale at Chickie’s & Pete’s South Philadelphia on Wednesday, January 31 and Thursday, February 1 from 7 to 9 p.m. (The shirts will be available for purchase online by the end of the week.) The Bet Between Philly's Yards Brewing Company and Boston's Harpoon Brewing

Speaking of friendly wagers, some of the biggest names in craft brewing have settled on a sudsy bet of their own. Philadelphia’s Yards Brewing Company and Boston’s Harpoon Brewery have settled on terms: The losing city’s brewery will have to pour the winning city’s beer for a whole day — and their staff will need to wear their opponent's apparel. Even better: Both breweries are donating a portion of their proceeds from now through Super Bowl Sunday to various charities.
