Weekend Picks: Opening of Spruce Street Harbor Park and RiverRink Summerfest, Mother’s Day And More

It's another one of those epic spring weekends in Philadelphia...

Welcome to a fun-filled May weekend, complete with festivals, exhibitions, the opening of seasonal attractions and more all around the city.

The Delaware River waterfront comes alive this weekend with the opening of two of its most popular seasonal attractions. Spruce Street Harbor Park kicks off its fifth season with its annual UNIVESTival celebration in addition to all of the usual great park offerings (colorful hammocks, flowing beer gardens, delicious food, etc.).

And Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest also kicks off its season with a brief stint this weekend, bringing its 60-foot-tall Ferris wheel, outdoor roller rink and more to Penn’s Landing.

The Philadelphia Chinese Lantern Festival continues this weekend in Franklin Square. The event features 1,500 stunning individual artworks made of more than 15,000 LED lights to form 28 stunning lantern displays of everything from pandas to a great white shark to a 200-foot-long dragon.

Last but certainly not least, Mother’s Day is this Sunday, and restaurants and attractions around the city and region are offering special meals, craft workshops, day cruises on the Delaware River and more.
