Weekend Picks: Roots Picnic, PIFA, Philly Beer Week, Summer Sounds In The Historic District And More

Live music, summer festivals and performing arts fests make this summer weekend a great one...

June is starting off in a big way in Philly.

Two major summer fests kick off this Friday. Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts — the city’s epic performing arts fest also known as PIFA — starts up this weekend with nearly 15 stunning performances around the city.

And beer lovers are in luck as the 11th annual Philly Beer Week gets the suds flowing thanks to more than 350 events over the next week and a half.

Philly’s homegrown music festival the Roots Picnic returns to Penn’s Landing on Saturday for a day of amazing musical performances, panel discussions, pop-up shops and more.

And First Sundays in Philly mean special deals for art lovers. Take advantage of pay-what-you-wish admission at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and free admission to the Barnes Foundation.

As an added bonus, the Barnes Foundation is hosting a free block party on Sunday afternoon featuring food trucks, dancing, a beer garden and more opportunities to see free art.
