Weekend Picks: BlackStar Film Festival, 2nd Street Festival, The Oval+, First Friday And More

From film festivals to neighborhood celebrations, this weekend in Philly is a busy one...

August is here! Get excited for a whole host of great late-summer events in the City of Brotherly Love this weekend.

Film lovers are in luck as the seventh annual BlackStar Film Festival returns, featuring a full weekend of films from Black creators celebrating the Black experience as well as discussions, parties, yoga and more.

Northern Liberties’ 2nd Street Festival combines a monster street festival with an equally massive music festival for a Sunday of epic fun.

And The Oval+ continues to entertain visitors of all ages as the seasonal attraction on Benjamin Franklin Parkway heads into another weekend of fun programming. Grab a beer with friends or enjoy an outdoor movie screening under the starry Philly skies.

We’re including happenings on Monday, August 6 in this edition of Weekend Picks because August is a great time for a long summer weekend in Philly, especially with the Visit Philly Overnight Hotel Package. The package includes more than $250 in free perks, including free hotel parking and free tickets and experiences from the Museum of the American Revolution, Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest, CHeU Noodle restaurants, Franklin Square, PHLASH and Lyft.
