Weekend Picks: O18, Puerto Rican Day Parade, Philly POPS’ 40th Anniversary, Center City Restaurant Week And More

Mark your calendar for more than 80 awesome events in Philly this weekend...

Fall festival season is in full swing in Philadelphia, and this last weekend of September is packed with big events both in the city and throughout the Greater Philadelphia area.

Five Oktoberfests and beer festivals — all on Saturday! — transform main streets throughout the region (as well as the Historic Houses of Fairmount Park) into food-and-beer hot spots, while West Philly, Fishtown, Kensington and other neighborhoods have their finest local wares on display at various craft fairs and festivals.

Some of the city’s most popular recurring events are back this weekend, too. Center City District Restaurant Week is underway, with more than 100 restaurants offering delicious three-course, prix-fixe lunch and dinner menus. Opera Philadelphia’s ground-breaking O18 festival wraps up its 11-day run this weekend with more performances around the city, including the wildly popular Opera on the Mall event on Saturday.

And the Puerto Rican Day Parade continues its 50-plus-year tradition on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. More than 5,000 people are expected to celebrate throughout the day with musical and dance performances before heading to the lively post-parade festival at American Street and Lehigh Avenue.

Finally, summer-lovers can soak up one last weekend at Spruce Street Harbor Park. The warm-weather park is as active as ever as last weekend’s partially rained-out Fall Fest returns with live music, a farmers market, an apple cider press and other fun activities.
